After lots of food and tests, container kitten Malaysia has a clean bill of health; the team are getting her stronger for adoption, which can hopefully happen in a few weeks’ time.

Boksburg, South Africa (25 February 2025) – At the beginning of February, news broke about a tiny kitten that had been found locked in a container that travelled for 40 days from Malaysia to Boksburg. How she ended up in the container is unknown, but her arrival in South Africa caused a big stir as the Boksburg SPCA team rushed to save her life. Now, several weeks later, they shared a heartwarming update with the Good Things Guy team, and our hearts melted!

Upon her rescue, Malaysia weighed only 700g, but today it is a healthy (and growing) 1.8kg. While speaking to Senior Inspector Vicky Finnemore about Malaysia’s progress, she shared that the little kitten has been making steady progress since her rescue.

“When “Malaysia” first came in, we immediately isolated/quarantined her from the rest of the pound animals. Our in-house veterinarians assessed her and have been monitoring her until now. Malaysia weighed a mere 700grams when she first came in but is now weighing in at 1.8kg.

On the 15th February, Malaysia was sent for assessment to a private Veterinary Clinic. She was tested for various feline diseases and was given a clean bill of health.”

With Malaysia being healthier, her future is looking brighter already. She is a long way from being rehomed, but as soon as she is old enough and weighs enough, she will be sterilised.

She has been vaccinated and is currently eating three times a day to boost her weight gain.

“Malaysia spends most of her day lazing around and napping. She thoroughly enjoys regular cuddles from our office staff. We are confident that she can head off to her new home within the next few weeks.”
