male lion

Hannetjie van der Westhuizen had a once in a lifetime experience when a juvenile male lion got up close and personal with her car.

Hannetjie van der Westhuizen has been visiting the Kruger National Park for nearly 48 years. In all that time, she has never been this close to a lion. The encounter was thrilling, a once in a lifetime kind of occurence for her. She told Latest Sightings,

“Most of my 48 years of visiting the park, I have had to use binoculars and a lot of imagination to spot a lion, never ever had an encounter like this!”

According to Latest Sightings, the best road for sightings like this one is the S100. This is because it is an open road with open plains, attracting prey, which attracts many prides of lions.

Curiosity got the better of the juvenile male lion and he started inspecting the car. He chewed the mirror and tyre before attempting to get to Hannetjie through the window. At one point he seems to be playing knock-knock before his sharp claws make one heck of a sound on the glass.

“We were very excited and scared at first, but then we realized that lion was more curious and playful and was just merely investigating a strange object.”

“He was seriously chewing on the tyres, and I thought those sharp teeth may damage them, so we decided to move one.”
