In a heartwarming tribute to a fallen hero, a precious black rhino calf at the Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary has been named “Andy.” This special name honours the memory of Andrew Boden, a compassionate philanthropist who played a crucial role in saving countless rhino lives.
Mpumalanga, South Africa (11 December 2024) – A precious first-born critically endangered black rhino Calf at Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary has been given the cute name “Andy”, which holds deep meaning.
This special name honours the memory of Andrew Boden, a compassionate philanthropist who played a crucial role in saving countless rhino lives.
Back in 2014, as the poaching crisis began to escalate, Care for Wild began receiving numerous orphans, many of them critically injured and wounded.
“We were in desperate need of high-quality medical supplies, wound dressings, and essential equipment. That’s when Mr Andrew Boden, founder of ER24, stepped in,” Care for Wild said.
Andrew, a champion for rhino conservation, arranged for donations of vital supplies to help save these orphaned rhinos and continued to support the sanctuary for several years thereafter, assisting with drips, bandages, dressings and other essential supplies.
Sadly, Andrew passed away on 17 March 2021, leaving a profound void in the hearts of those he touched at Care for Wild. However, his legacy of care endured as the team he led continues to provide invaluable support to the organisation.
“Naming this little black rhino calf Andy, feels like a fitting tribute to a man who left his heart with the rhinos,” shares Care for Wild Founder and CEO Petronel Nieuwoudt.
“Andrew’s support has been instrumental in getting us to where we are today. He helped us save countless rhino lives, and it’s an honour to name this beautiful and important calf after him”.
