The pupils of Thuto Pele Secondary School were inspired to take action and move towards a greener tomorrow by participating in environmental restoration activities as part of the launch of the #GreenRisingZA Protect and Restore Project.
Katlehong, South Africa (27 October 2024) – UNICEF South Africa, together with WESSA, launched the #GreenRisingZA Protect and Restore Project in Gauteng with an exciting day of eco-action at Thuto Pele Secondary School in Katlehong, Gauteng.
Students at the school enthusiastically participated in environmental restoration activities. Together they gave back to our planet by planting 20 indigenous trees, adding 40 vibrant succulents, and setting up a thriving vegetable garden to provide nutrition and allow the youngsters to see the fruits of their labour.
The day was a resounding success, made possible by the collaboration with the Department of Basic Education and the Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment.
The Protect and Restore Project is making a real difference by fostering environmental stewardship, promoting food security, and bringing environmental education to life in a fun and impactful way.
This hands-on initiative also forms part of WESSA’s efforts to foster a love for the environment, facilitating improved environmental learning and working towards a healthy environment and whole-school development. Ultimately inspiring a new generation of environmental champions!
