The pup has beaten the odds and has something so special and remarkable about him; besides his will to live, the fact that he sacrificed his own life to try to protect his owner is bravery like we have never seen.

Western Cape, South Africa (27 February 2022) – A dog that heroically tried to protect his human during a tragic fight by jumping between the knives and gunshots needs our help to get back to health!

Dead Animal Walking“, a registered non-profit organisation that gives all badly abused and neglected animals, on the verge of death, a second chance at life, posted the story about the brave pup.

Luke put himself in front of his dad to protect him from bullets and pangas in a tragic fight that broke out in Mooreesburg – a rural town situated about 90 kilometres north of Cape Town.

The brave pup tragically lost his dad, but kind South Africans working for the incredible animal organisation stepped in to help Luke, who had multiple stab wounds, as well as severe damage from being beaten with a spade.

“Luke has beaten the odds and has something so special and remarkable about him, besides his will to live, the fact that he sacrificed his own life to try to protect his owner is bravery like we have never seen.”

The doctors believe that the gash in his face from the panga and the stabs in his shoulder will fully heal.

“He will definitely make a full recovery, but the spade that he got beaten with has completely shattered the bone between his elbow and shoulder, which cannot be surgically repaired. So his right front leg needs to be amputated.”

Luke is a big, sturdy Pit Bull that is around 1-year-old so his recovery will be delicate but totally achievable because he is still so young. His age is advantageous as he can get some rehab to teach him to use his three legs without struggle.

“So he is stable and needs to have the surgery done as soon as possible (he will be neutered at the same time), but the cost of the procedure will be between R5,500 to R6,500, and we would please like to ask our supporters to help us give this heroic pup this chance in life because his bravery merits being saved! Pawlease will you contribute to Luke if you agree, can we tell our vets to go ahead?”
