Some of the rescued Flamingoes from Kimberly have arrived in Cape Town, but they are going to need volunteers to survive!

Table View, Cape Town – Over 500 of the flamingoes rescued in Kimberly have made their way to South African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB) Table View branch in Cape Town. This was done as the workload was far too great on Kimberly SPCA. Many of the birds have been sent to various organisations that have extensive knowledge in bird care.

World of Birds in Hout Bay also received some of the chicks. We spoke to Ronnis Daniels from SANCCOB Table View and she confirmed that above all they are desperate for volunteers. She said that each feeding requires a minimum of 19 volunteers, most putting their efforts into making the feed mixture. This is the most time-consuming part of the feeding.

She also mentioned that towels were a big need as they are replaced almost hourly. Ronnis gave us a full list of donations needed to help keep these flamingoes alive. They sadly have lost a few already as they were in a very poor condition. Caring for the chicks is a round the clock process and any help would be greatly appreciated.

What they need, World of Birds will also need so whichever organisation is closer to you, you can assist. You will find info on the World of Birds Facebook page here. Take a look below what SANCCOB needs help with.
