The Strand Sokkie Crew lent a hand and some dance moves to the Hout Bay Seal Rescue Centre in an effort to support the organisation that’s on the brink of closure due to critically low funds.

Hout Bay, South Africa (30 January 2025) — The Strand Sokkie Crew’s kindness arrived at just the right time for the Hout Bay Seal Rescue Centre.

Facing closure due to critically low funding, the Hout Bay Seal Rescue Centre (HBSRC) has been fighting hard to keep its doors open and continue its work with rescuing and rehabilitating seals in distress, a mission they’ve been on since 1999.

Hoping to help, the Strand Sokkie Crew organised a clean-up and dance session, rallying funds and creating a sense of camaraderie for the seal heroes—both of which are vital now more than ever.

The HBSRC team couldn’t have been more grateful for the efforts. However, the call is still on to help see them through this challenging chapter.

“We can’t bear the thought of abandoning the seals who rely on us for care and rehabilitation,” the team shared before expressing their most urgent needs.

These needs include fish for the rescued seals, sponsorship and partnership opportunities for sustainable support, as well as transport; the team’s current vehicle (essential for collecting the rescued seals from their network of volunteers) is said to be in need of a reputable replacement.

While the organisation knows that none of the above are small asks, their hope is that if enough people spread the word, lend whatever support they can and come together in solidarity for the seals of the Cape Peninsula, there might just be a big celebration (dancing in tow) as hope would’ve been restored in Hout Bay.

Those interested in helping can make a donation here or get in touch here.
