When a truck driver scrambled for hours to find and collect a repair part for his broken-down truck, the SPCA Randburg team lovingly cared for his “gentle and patient” cargo.
Randburg, South Africa (02 October 2025) – What started as a usual morning of regular routines took a sudden turn when members of the SPCA Randburg received an unexpected call. A truck carrying goats had broken down in the middle of the road on Tuesday night, around 8pm.
“Shockingly, we were only notified at 9am this morning [Wednesday],” SPCA Randburg said.
Wasting no more precious time, a team went to the site to make sure the poor animals had food, water, and shade.
“They were exhausted, but still so gentle and patient.
“The driver had been battling to find the right part, and once he did, he still had to go all the way into town to collect it.”
After a very long, hot day, the truck was finally repaired while the SPCA tended to the goats.
“By 4pm, with full bellies and fresh energy, the goats were on their way again – heading to the farm where they could finally be free.”
Thanks to a call for help that was answered without hesitation, 23 goats were relieved from their distress and a potentially dangerous situation, and are well on their way to a happier and safer place.
Now that’s certainly not your average day, but it is all in a day’s work for these amazing animal heroes whose commitment extends to all animals in all situations. The SPCA Randburg credited its donors and supporters for enabling it to do all that it does.
“We would never be able to do this without the public, and we are truly thankful to the person who called it in. We don’t just look after the many dogs and cats in our care. We look after all of them, from the tiniest bird to, well… even goats stuck in the back of a truck.”
