Mook Lion brings his colour to a brand new wildlife and conservation hub cooking up in the Eastern Cape.

Eastern Cape, South Africa (20 August 2025) –  Mook Lion is a well-known South African street artist who has made a name for himself by using public art to tell important stories and bring new energy to shared spaces.

Again, he’s put his creativity to work, backing an important mission in wildlife conservation in the Eastern Cape.

Mook Lion, in collaboration with Sive Ntombana, a talented Eastern Cape artist, was recently commissioned to create not one, but two massive murals for a new conservation initiative, a hub that will become the centre of an ambitious initiative aiming to restore ancient wildlife corridors, linking Addo all the way to the Great Fish River.

The project, championed by Law of the Wild and supported by Culture & Animals Foundation, is all about ‘restoring the roam’ and letting wildlife move freely across land that’s been divided for centuries.

One of the new works splashes across a barn that will soon sit at the gateway to this corridor.

The mural is bold and powerful, showing a herd of elephants cutting through the patchwork of fences and boundaries. It’s a vision of hope and what’s possible when people and nature work together.

“The Eastern Cape land has been fragmented for centuries… This mural depicts a herd of elephants, imagined enormous, cutting through the divided land. This barn will sit at the gateway to this corridor and serve as an environmental hub.”

This isn’t Mook Lion’s first time painting with purpose. He’s travelled across South Africa, bringing new colour to schools, community centres, and public spaces. But this project hits a little different. It’s about giving back to the land itself, and supporting a cause that matters to everyone.

Much respect to Mook, who is sparking bigger conversations about conservation and what’s possible for wild spaces in South Africa, by creating artwork that tears down fences for the best possible cause.

The new hub will open soon, but for now, the murals are an exciting sign of what’s to come.
