If you’re passionate about nature and want to actively contribute to preserving some of our iconic landmarks, becoming a SANParks Honorary Ranger may be right up your alley!
Cape Town, South Africa (03 February 2025) – Table Mountain National Park, home to one of the 7 Wonders of Nature, is more than just a view – it’s our natural heritage that needs us all to play a part in ensuring it continues to thrive for future generations to enjoy.
One of the many ways to do this is by becoming an Honorary Ranger! The South African Parks (SANParks) is calling on all nature enthusiasts to become part of its mission to restore trails, safeguard wildlife, keep visitors safe, educate the youth and support vital conservation projects.
SANParks Honorary Rangers give South Africans with a passion for nature the opportunity to help protect and preserve our unique natural heritage for the benefit of future generations.
There are more than 2,100 SANParks Honorary Rangers – all volunteers – based in 31 regions around the country and working in all 21 of the national parks.
Safeguarding Table Mountain
The Honorary Rangers in the Table Mountain region are typically involved in fundraising efforts to support various projects and wishlist items. Their responsibilities include maintaining the structural integrity of hiking and cycling trails, as well as various park infrastructures. They conduct visitor safety patrols by vehicle, bicycle, and on foot in high-traffic areas such as Table Mountain.
Additionally, the Rangers engage in environmental interpretation and educational displays at various events. They assist with scientific research projects, erect educational signage, and remove graffiti from natural rock formations and other park-owned infrastructures.
They also clear alien vegetation and provide visitor education at Boulders, where the penguins are located. Furthermore, they support the Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) visitor safety K9 unit.
To become a SANParks Honorary Ranger means being committed to making a difference in conserving and protecting our natural environment. To learn more about how you can be a part of this incredible opportunity, visit: www.sanparksvolunteers.org/volunteer/
