Every park needs a Dog Library!
Johannesburg, South Africa (13 November 2022) – Delta Park just added a “Dog Library” on the ParkRun route… and the internet (and pups) can’t get enough of it!
Delta Park is one of the biggest parks in Randburg. It is adjacent to Blairgowrie and Victory Park suburbs and comprises 108 hectares of grassland and woodland and three tree-lined dams. It has walking trails, a sensory trail, bird-watching hides and now, most recently, added a “dog library”.
Lynn Katsoulis saw the novel idea last week and posted a photo to the Delta Park Facebook group but it seems South Africans love the concept as it has been shared with Good Things Guy numerous times.
The Dog Library was the brainchild of Gillian Findlay, who came up with the idea after her friend Desirée Lundstrom showed her a photo of something similar in the USA.
“I had some planks lying around from an old fence that I had removed. I thought I would make something similar for her as a birthday gift because when you get a bit older, you don’t really want to have more objects. It took a bit longer than I expected, but I eventually got there and then we installed it together,” Findlay explained to Good Things Guy.
The two friends love Delta Park and do ParkRun there every weekend, so they decided that the Dog Library had to be on the running route.
Findlay says that she is delighted that people are enjoying it.
“There is more than enough doom and gloom in the world today that it is wonderful to be able to bring a little bit of cheer and a smile to people’s faces.”
And we couldn’t agree more – sometimes the smallest things, are actually the biggest things!
