This elephant lived in chains for 50 years. Just look at what he did when he was rescued!
India (14 March 2022) – In 2022, Raju the elephant celebrates eight years of freedom!
Can you imagine what it must be like to spend years in prison? To endure the pain from the shackles on your feet, understanding that no one sees you as a living being but only as a means to earn profit.
Raju, the elephant, spent the first five decades of his life roaming the streets of Uttar Pradesh seeking alms for his owner while being kept in custody illegally. In 2014, the NGO Wildlife SOS successfully rescued the animal and treated him to a healthy ‘cake’ this year to celebrate his freedom.
Today Raju is safe at the Wildlife SOS Elephant Conservation and Care Center, where he lives a retired life in a large enclosure
