A little bit of support goes a long way for the class of 2025, who are preparing to face the most important exams of their school careers!
Fish Hoek, South Africa (29 August 2025) – Prelims are here, and with finals looming, matric students across SA are a bundle of nerves and need all the encouragement they can get.
At Fish Hoek High School, that support came in the most heart-warming way this week.
The Grade 1s of Fish Hoek Primary School arrived at ‘big school’ wielding handmade cards, colourful messages, and little study packs filled with pens, paper clips, erasers, Super C’s and a few gold stars.
The surprise visit from the little learners has become a wholesome tradition in the valley, reminding the seniors that their entire community is backing them.
“These little learners arrived with colourful, handmade cards filled with encouragement and well wishes, reminding our seniors that their whole community is behind them,” the high school shared.
It wasn’t just the current crop of primary schoolers cheering them on.
One former pre-primary teacher of the matric group reached out with her own message of encouragement:
“All the best to the Starfish class of 2012 from Fish Hoek Pre-Primary School who are preparing for their mock matric exams, love Mrs van Eyk.”

It’s a reminder that they’re not alone and that they’ve got the little ones, their teachers, and their whole community rooting for them.
Unfortunately not every school has a tradition like Fish Hoek’s, but everyone can do something small to lift a matric student’s spirits.
Slip a handwritten note into their study notes, leave a choccie on their desk, or even send a quick voice note saying you believe in them. Loved ones can even pack a ‘study survival kit’ with healthy snacks, stress balls, or a favourite mug.
Little acts of encouragement always add up. In this case, it gives the class of 2025 even more confidence to step into their exams knowing that they have a whole village behind them.
