Having chosen courage over life on the streets, former Ignisive Stewards Kieyaam and Shaundre returned to Kalksteenfontein Primary to show the next generation that difficult circumstances do not define destiny.

Cape Town, South Africa (29 June 2026) – This past Youth Day, Ignisive gathered at Kalksteenfontein Primary School to celebrate hope, resilience, and the limitless potential of young people when communities unite for change.

Ignisive is driven by a vision to unite communities, businesses, NPOs, and government entities to drive meaningful, positive change. By offering a “hand-up” rather than a hand-out, the organisation empowers vulnerable individuals through collaborative, community-led support.

This empowering mission shone through the stories of former Ignisive Stewards, Kieyaam and Shaundre, during the Youth Day event. Both originally from Kalksteenfontein and previously with the Camps Bay CID, they have now secured permanent employment at the Pinelands CID.

Their honest accounts of surviving life on the streets, the difficult choices they faced, and the courage it took to transform their lives deeply inspired every child, parent, and educator in the room. Their journeys further served as a reminder that circumstances do not define destiny.

More speakers and partners also poured wisdom, encouragement, and energy into the day, including:

  • Liezl and the Lavender Hill Dance Crew
  • Dr Wade Palmer
  • Rayyaan Allie and the Total Ninja team
  • Wendy Isaacs

The event was as wholesome as it was inspiring. Thought-provoking talks left the staff and learners of Kalksteenfontein Primary motivated, while special activities and dance performances kept everyone entertained. Thanks to generous donations from sponsors, every child also received a nourishing meal and snacks.

“We are equally grateful to the community members who donated resources, especially Common Ground Church Sea Point, for the rugby balls that will help unlock future sporting opportunities and talent development at the school,” Ignisive shared.

A special salute also went out to the Ignisive A+ (Positive Action) team – Sergeant Bester, Fiona, Andrew, Nangamso and Pedro – together with Board members Tony and Theresa, whose tireless commitment transformed an unfunded vision into a meaningful reality.

“This is what becomes possible when people choose action, compassion, and collaboration over indifference. Together, we are proving that inclusive change is possible.”
