A short video from the production offers a glimpse into the stage show, with Marc Lottering leading a lively musical number supported by a cast of performers.
Cape Town, South Africa (11 January 2025) – Marc Lottering is reminding South Africans that there’s more to his talent than punchlines.
The beloved actor and comedian recently shared a clip from Colleen the Musical on social media, showing him on stage in full performance mode, backed by a group of dancers moving in tight, energetic synchronisation.
Currently running at the Baxter Theatre Centre in Cape Town until 7 February 2026, Colleen the Musical is a South African musical comedy created by and starring Lottering. The production brings one of his most popular stand-up characters, Colleen the Cashier, to life in a whole new way.
Set inside the busy aisles of the “Bye Bye Supermarket”, the story follows Colleen, a woman who lives by the motto: “If you don’t give your heart away, it will never be broken.” Her carefully guarded world is turned upside down when Randall the shelf-packer, played by Carlo Daniels, arrives and sets his sights on winning her heart.
The show blends comedy, music and movement, with a fast-paced retail setting filled with quirky supervisors, cigarette counters and familiar customer chaos. Marc’s performance anchors the production, but it’s the musical elements that have caught many fans off guard, revealing another layer to his versatility as a performer.
For audiences used to seeing him command the stage with jokes alone, Colleen the Musical offers something fresh. Showing us that South African theatre continues to surprise.
