In a funny “tell me you’re in South Africa without telling me you’re in South Africa” moment, two men decided that their horse-riding adventure required a quick pit stop at a local McDonald’s.
Free State, South Africa (09 January 2026) – What is the strangest thing you’ve seen at a drive-thru?… We bet the average person didn’t think of “cowboys” on horseback, LOL.
In a truly “only in South Africa” moment, a hilarious video shared by Raine Dunn shows two men dressed in shorts and veldskoene each perched quite comfortably on their horses, waiting for their turn at the window at a McDonald’s drive-thru in the Free State.
“Afrikaner cowboys waiting in the drive-thru on their horses with their kortbroek and vellies,” the post was hilariously captioned.
The video has done its rounds, boasting over 445K views at the time of publication. Naturally, the jokes and banter flew in the comments section, with entertained viewers poking fun at the two men who chose to take an unconventional detour during their horse-riding adventure.
“Give that boer a burger,” Peter Burger commented.
“It’s drive-thru thru not walk-thru,” Clifford Thomas joked.
Heinrich Weber teased:
“I am just wondering who lost the pool game at the bar the previous night.”
And according to Donovan de Wet, this isn’t so uncommon after all, saying:
“This happens in Hoedspruit too.”
In a world that can sometimes feel a bit too serious, South Africans clearly don’t believe in dull moments. This hilarious encounter was more than just a strange sight; it was a reminder of why our country is so unique.
