The same man behind Blouberg’s free yoga and swim sessions has started a new project, and it’s all about spreading love notes!
Blouberg, Cape Town (19 August 2025) – If you’ve been following Michael O’Rourke’s journey on Good Things Guy, you’ll know he’s no stranger to finding creative ways to spread some love.
From recently celebrating 150 free beach yoga and cold water swim sessions, which have become a community ritual where people could connect, to helping collect donations for local charities, Michael has always found little ways to make others happy through kindness.
His newest project is just as wholesome, and it fits in the palm of your hand!
Michael has launched a campaign of ‘love notes’. Small, uplifting messages printed on paper that he carries around with him in a drawstring bag, like a wizard of kindness.
When the moment feels right, he invites someone to reach into the bag and pull out a folded note at random.
“I had this idea for a while to try and spread more hope through messages. Actual physical pieces of paper with a short uplifting message,” he explains.
The notes, 13 different ones in total, came straight from the heart. When he sat down to write them, they came pouring out.
“When I stood back and looked at the 13 messages I realised that the reason these made it onto paper so easily, was because these are the words I would most like to receive when I am feeling down.”
The process has been as sweet and thoughtful as the idea itself.
After rushing into town to print nearly 1000 notes, he spent hours cutting and folding them by hand.
“Sjoe…the process was a labour of love, cutting these 1000 messages up and folding them in half. I was so grateful to have my mother’s guillotine. Thanks mom,” says Michael.
The end product was a stack of small kindnesses ready to meet the world.
Unlike similar projects that have spread the love elsewhere in the world, Michael doesn’t decide which message someone gets, nor does he film the moment for viral fame.
Instead, he leaves it all up to chance and enjoys watching from a distance as the words land exactly where they’re needed. Recipients are invited to keep their love note or pass it on to someone else who might need it, creating a ripple effect of hope.
Michael is now encouraging others to join the campaign, which costs nothing but a few gestures of kindness and a printer.
Anyone who wants to spread love notes can email him at [email protected] to receive the PDF template and instructions to spread messages of kindness.
His only request is that participants only print the existing 13 messages using the template, and to print it on light blue paper.
“Print on light blue paper if possible, as light blue is known to be calming,” he says.
From there, the real ‘work’ begins, says Michael.
“The spreading of the love notes has begun and I am excited to see where it goes and how wide it spreads!”
