Rassie Erasmus | Happy Birthday, Rassie! A Special Surprise From Where It All Began!

South Africa’s favourite rugby coach is getting some birthday love from the very place where his journey began!

Eastern Cape, South Africa (05 November 2026) – South Africa has a whole lot of love for Rassie Erasmus. He’s given us World Cup victories, that feeling of being “Stronger Together” and enough reasons to shout “GO BOKKE!” to last a lifetime.

But today, on his birthday, the celebrations are coming from a place very close to his heart. The learners at his old high school have put together a surprise that might just make our favourite rugby coach a little emotional (and even us too).

Actually, definitely us too. We love Rassie. In fact, we named him South African of the Year in 2024, recognising his incredible achievements with the Springboks and the way he brought our country together. From back-to-back Rugby World Cup victories to unforgettable moments that had millions of South Africans celebrating as one, Rassie has reminded us time and time again just how powerful sport can be. But before the World Cups, the trophies and the national celebrations, Rassie was just a young boy from Despatch, attending the local high school and dreaming of what his future might hold. Now, years later, the learners at that same school have come together to celebrate their famous former pupil.

Learners from Despatch High School, where Rassie was once a student himself, have come together to record a special musical birthday tribute for the Springbok coach. It’s a full-circle moment, with today’s learners celebrating someone who once walked the same school corridors and went on to inspire millions of South Africans.

The birthday surprise was made possible through a collaboration with Pringle of Scotland, which has partnered with Rassie Erasmus to bring this special initiative to life. But the celebrations weren’t only about honouring the Springbok coach. There was also an opportunity to recognise the people who help shape the next generation of South Africans… our teachers! As part of the initiative, Pringle of Scotland gifted vouchers to the teachers at Despatch High School as a token of appreciation for the incredible work they do every day.

And the brand is also giving back to South Africa! If you visit their online store today, Pringle of Scotland is offering a “Buy any 2 Full-Price Items and Get the 3rd FREE” because of the coach’s birthday!

So we all get to celebrate.

Happy birthday, Rassie! And thank you… for you!
