An R10 sticker is helping support Breadline Africa, Rally to Read and Matla a Bana, with Funky Socks Day now 75% of the way to its goal.

South Africa (30 August 2026) – South Africa is getting closer to an important milestone, one funky pair of socks at a time. The PNA Funky Socks Day campaign has already raised R1,887,170, putting it around 75% of the way towards its R2.5 million fundraising goal. And with National Funky Socks Day happening on 11 September, there is still time for South Africans to get involved and help push the campaign over the line.

Now in its fifth year, Funky Socks Day has turned colourful socks into a simple way for schools, workplaces, families and communities to support children and communities across Southern Africa. What started as a fun way to raise money has become an annual tradition, with people embracing their brightest, boldest and most wonderfully ridiculous socks for a cause that matters.

The campaign brings together three organisations doing important work for children: Breadline Africa, Rally to Read and Matla a Bana. Each organisation supports a different area of need, from early childhood development and literacy to protecting vulnerable children, meaning every R10 sticker sold helps contribute to work that can make a lasting difference.

For Breadline Africa, the funds raised help support early childhood development in under-resourced communities by providing educational resource packs to ECD centres. Last year’s campaign helped fund 50 packs filled with learning materials and stationery, giving young children more opportunities to learn through play while supporting the educators who work with them every day.

And this year’s campaign is aiming to do even more. The beauty of Funky Socks Day is that helping does not have to be complicated. A R10 sticker is all it takes to contribute, and then you get to dig out those wonderfully colourful socks that have been sitting at the back of the drawer waiting for their big moment.

That spirit has helped the campaign grow into a much-loved annual tradition, and the latest fundraising figure shows just how many people are willing to get involved. But while R1.887 million is an incredible milestone, there is still more to do.

More than R600,000 is still needed to reach the R2.5 million target, which means there is a final stretch for South Africans to get behind the campaign. Every R10 sticker brings the campaign a little closer, and every school, workplace, family or group that joins in can help turn a day of colourful fun into meaningful support for children.

“We aim to collectively raise R2.5 million across South Africa and Namibia by 11 September 2026. Then we aim to raise R500,000 more by 28 Feb 2027 to ensure long-term impact.” – Funky Socks Day

Funky Socks Day takes place on Friday, 11 September, giving everyone plenty of time to find their loudest socks, grab a R10 sticker and get involved. Stickers are available from PNA stores nationwide and online, while schools and workplaces can also order stickers in bulk and organise their own celebrations.

The campaign is already 75% of the way there. Now, with a little more help from South Africans, that colourful total could reach R2.5 million and help three organisations continue their important work.

And this year, Breadline Africa has created its very own funky sock, giving supporters an extra-special way to show their support. So, whether your style is bright and bold, wonderfully weird or simply proudly funky, there is a pair waiting to help make a difference. Sometimes changing lives starts with something as simple as putting on a pair of funky socks.
