Sean Clarke accomplished his ambitious goal to cycle from Joburg to Cape Town in eight days to raise funds so his friend James can get a prosthetic leg. He shared the update on his “Gammie on the Go” page.

South Africa (16 October 2023) – We shared Sean Clarke’s story earlier this year about his ambitious goal to cycle from Joburg to Cape Town and he has finally completed the challenge. Sean’s story is a special one as his leg is paralysed from the knee down which adds another level to his accomplishing his “Gammie on the Go” challenge.

Sean Clarke named his left leg “Gammie” after he severed the nerve at the back of his knee at the age of seven and the damage left him paralysed from the knee down. Sean has never let his damaged leg get in the way of his dreams. We shared his inspiring story in April this year, where Sean shared how the injury has pushed him to do more and turning to the challenge of cycling and swimming connected him to even more good things.

Through his sporting endeavours, Sean met 16-year-old James who needs a new prosthetic leg. Sean committed to raising funds for James Thusi by cycling from Joburg to Cape Town and then swimming from Robben Island to Big Bay. Having completed his cycle this past week, he now sets his sights on the next challenge.

“This challenge pushed me to my limits. The pain and discomfort I felt from day one were unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. I knew my determination would carry me through, and I believed in myself from the very beginning

This experience reaffirmed that persistence knows no bounds; it’s the driving force behind every remarkable achievement

I want to emphasize, with unwavering passion, that everyone with a disability possesses their own set of exceptional abilities. Our differences are our superpowers, and by celebrating them, we inspire others to recognize their limitless potential “

His aim has been to raise the funds needed to give James a new prosthetic leg that would allow him to take part in sports without discomfort. Sean has already managed to raise over R80,000 towards the specialised prosthetic leg for James.
