Graeme College boys took a moment to beautify the school’s recycling bin.
Eastern Cape, South Africa (21 August 2026) – Three cheers for the recycling bin at Graeme College as it sports a new look!
Who said bins should be boring? In fact, the more eyes they catch, perhaps the more litter they will collect, too.
Two Graeme learners – Matthew and Morné – along with Mr Bodenstein, took the initiative to give the school’s recycling bin a touch of character with a brand-new makeover.

The bin – used to recycle paper, tin, plastic and cardboard – now sports three new artworks: a paper-guzzling monster, a wonderfully green landscape with a recycling bin as its subject, and a ‘save the whale’ scene that speaks to the importance of recycling materials like plastic before they end up in the ocean, where they don’t belong.
“A huge thank you to our very artistic boys for giving our Junior School recycling bin a fabulous makeover!” the school shared this week. “We love the creativity and the important message behind these artworks!”

We love to see initiatives like this being celebrated! Bringing up the next generation of earth warriors means teaching young learners to adopt an eco-friendly attitude early on.
Learners at schools across South Africa continue to show just how important recycling is. We see it through hugely successful national efforts like The Sweethearts / eWASA Schools Challenge and the Glass Recycling Schools Competition.
Caring about the planet is cool, and so is Graeme College’s colourful recycling bin.
