Something as simple as a puzzle or a storybook can lay the foundation for a lifetime of learning. The team at Pharos Community Centre is rallying to place these essential yet often out-of-reach learning tools directly into the hands of 25 children in Mamelodi.
Pretoria, South Africa (09 August 2026) – Every child deserves the chance to learn, play, and grow in a space that sparks curiosity and inspires discovery.
Grounded in this belief, the team at Pharos Community Centre is dedicated to enriching the learning environment for 25 young children at Bright Beginnings Daycare and Preschool in Mamelodi. Through its CHICS Program, active at the school, the Centre provides hands-on educational resources designed to nurture creativity, joy, and problem-solving.
“At Pharos Community Centre, we believe that something as simple as a puzzle, a storybook, or a set of building blocks can ignite a child’s imagination and lay the foundation for lifelong learning,” the team shared.
Research shows that the early years of a child’s life are critical for cognitive, social, and emotional development.
“By providing opportunities to learn through play, we can help children build the skills they need to succeed in school and beyond.”
Many of the children attending the preschool come from vulnerable households where access to quality educational resources is limited. Pharos is therefore appealing to individuals, families, schools, churches, and businesses to help stand in the gap by donating new or gently used educational items to support the development of these little ones. These items include:
- Puzzles
- Building blocks
- Shape sorters
- Children’s books
- Educational games
- Stationery
- Outdoor toys, such as balls, skipping ropes, tricycles, and similar items
- Non-toxic, water-based outdoor paint to refresh the children’s jungle gyms
