“Nothing’s being done about safety for explorers on the mountains!” Think again. Inspector November and his small team are leading the difference from Table Mountain to Signal Hill, making visitors from near and far feel a lot safer!
Cape Town, South Africa (13 September 2023) — In a Western Cape where many communities feel that there aren’t enough law enforcement-led boots on the ground to keep hikers and explorers safe in the mountainscapes, one Inspector November and his small team are leading the difference.
Across hiking groups, Inspector November’s name has popped up for the positive—from hikers’ opinions to those of mountain guides’; the officer has certainly started to make a name for himself for all the right reasons!
As one runner, Alison Deary, shared, Inspector November is a breath of fresh air when it comes to safety and law enforcement.
Another spotlit encounter saw Robert Laidlaw share that the Inspector’s safety brief to guests of Table Mountain made them feel more at ease and that the proactive work from law enforcement was good to see.
One respected hiking and tour guide, Tim Lundy, also sang Inspector November and his team of 7 others’ praises in bold, expressing that the officer has “so much passion for what he does.”
“Too often we keep hearing how there is not enough policing on the slopes of our mountains -“nothings being done!” That is simply not true and Inspector November and his small team have [decided] to try change that perception,” said Tim. “I’ve decided to join them and try bring awareness that they are there and they are trying very hard to be seen and heard.”
Tim adds:
“As a tour guide I’m constantly asked, how safe is it? Toursts coming to Cape Town and Table Mountain should be able to go back home and tell friends and family that Cape Town is the best place to go visit and you can feel safe when using the mountains. Are we going to eradicate crime all together? Obviously not but we can bloody well try to make it a lot safer than the current perception is!”
Tim called for others to share photos with the dedicated Inspector and his team (who can be found looking out for explorers on Table Mountain, Signal Hill or Lion’s Head, to put them in the spotlight for their hard, often overlooked work. This way, more policing units can hopefully be rallied and flagged as important for the government, and the small teams making the difference might become big teams creating the norm!
