Wendy Pfeiffer shared a heartwarming story of how her daughter used Facetime and binoculars to help her see a baby giraffe all the way in the UK.

Kruger National Park, South Africa (17 August 2020) – Technology is both a pain and the best thing. It enables us to connect with loved ones across the world. During this pandemic, it has been the only way for people to be together and to connect.

Wendy Pfeiffer is currently in the UK, desperate to be home with her loved ones. Wendy’s daughter Rachel and her fiance Samuel Cilliers recently took a day-trip to Kruger National Park. Knowing how much her mother misses her and the bush, she video called her when they had a great sighting.

Wendy was overjoyed when her daughter used the binoculars to enhance the sighting. By placing them on the camera, Wendy was able to see a young giraffe that was off in the distance and not visible to her on the regular camera.

“When your daughter is right now in Kruger and wants to try and share the live experience on a video call with her mum in the UK!

Binoculars held in front of iPhone, viewing a mum and teeny weeny newborn giraffe (don’t think you would see that unless I told you!)

She also held her phone at the window as they were driving along so I could help with sightings. I suddenly shouted ‘STOP, GO BACK’ as you do…so they did…I was teasing

Saw lovely sunrise though and pretended I could smell the Kruger aroma.

Bless her, it was as close as I’m likely to be to the Kruger for a while yet.”

In times like this, it is these small pleasures we hope to never take for granted again. We hope to never forget the smell of the wild world, the beauty of an uninterrupted sunrise and the calls of nature.

Wendy was blessed to be part of her daughter’s joy and we loved hearing her story.
