The Jagersfontein community has received a helping hand from Gift of the Givers in the way of water, food for the hospital and sheep food for farmers.
Jagersfontein, South Africa (19 September 2022) – On the 11th of September 2022, a dam wall in Jagersfontein broke and washed away parts of the community. The dam was used as waste storage from a local, disused diamond mine. When the wall broke, it sent a wave of grey sludge and mud through the community.
South Africans have rallied to offer support, Meals on Wheels delivered food, the SPCA has been saving as many animals as possible, and now the Gift of the Givers has sent in much-needed aid.
For over 30 years, the non-governmental organisation, Gift of the Givers has served humanity unconditionally, assisting all of creation, irrespective of race, religion, colour, class, political affiliation or geographic location.
When the call came to support the Jagersfontein community, Gift of the Givers answered. In turn, they called big sponsors for help, and that too, was answered.
Over the weekend, Gift of the Givers delivered 10 tonnes of bottled water from Makro as well as bulk food stocks to the Diamant Hospital so that the increased number of patients can have been admitted.
Aside from helping the humans, the team brought in pallets of sheep pellets to support farmers that have been affected by the burst mine dam.
