The 4.9km event will raise funds for 269 Deaf learners while bringing the Deaf and hearing communities together.

Pretoria, South Africa (13 August 2026) – Pretoria is being called to lace up, get moving and show some love to the Deaf community at the Transoranje Fun Run on Saturday, 29 August.

The 4.9km fundraiser will take place at Transoranje School for the Deaf in Pretoria West, bringing runners, walkers, families and friends together for a morning of fitness, fun and meaningful community connection.

Registration opens at 6am, with the run starting at 7am at 855 WF Nkomo Street. Early Bird entry is R100, while entries on the day cost R120 and every finisher gets a medal.

Transoranje is home to 269 Deaf learners, with South African Sign Language (SASL) serving as their primary language. Established in 1954, the school provides specialised education while creating a space where Deaf learners can communicate, learn, build friendships and develop their independence.

The school offers different educational pathways to meet learners where they are, supported by educators, therapists, a social worker and healthcare professionals. For learners who live too far away to travel to school every day, hostel facilities also provide access to specialised Deaf education.

The Fun Run has two big goals: raising funds for the learners and creating greater awareness of Deaf culture and the Deaf community.

Funds raised will help support school governing body educators, assistive devices and specialised resources, learner activities and sport, as well as improvements to the school’s sporting facilities.

And while the fundraising is important, organisers also want the event to help bring the Deaf and hearing communities closer together.

It is an opportunity for people to experience and learn more about SASL, celebrate Deaf culture and challenge some of the communication barriers that can leave communities feeling disconnected.

So whether you’re a serious runner, a casual walker or simply looking for a fun Saturday morning with the family, you can be part of it.
