The 2018 public holiday calendar is like a gift that keeps on giving. By taking just 8 days leave in April, you could get 17 days of vacation!

Plus the year is speckled with loads of long weekends, giving you even more holiday opportunities.

Every year GoodThingsGuy puts together a Public Holiday calendar list to assist you in planning your time off and weekends away so without further ado, here is our best tips for 2018.

The first big one falls just 3 months after South Africa’s summer holidays and by taking just 8 days leave, you will get a whopping 17 day holiday when combined with the weekends and public holidays.

Easter Break

Human Rights Day falls on Wednesday 21 March while Good Friday is on Friday 30 March and Family Day is Monday 2 April.

By taking leave from the 19 March to the 29 March (just 8 days), you will be out of the office from Saturday the 17th March to Monday the 2 April – 17 days in total.

But this year is also filled with loads of long weekends to take advantage of.

Freedom Day and Workers Day

Freedom Day falls on Friday 27 April and Workers Day is on Tuesday 1 May which means by taking off Monday 30 April, you will get an awesome 5 day break.

Women’s Day

Women’s Day falls on Thursday 9 August this year which means by taking off Friday (10 August) you get another long weekend. But midweek public holidays also mean that you could take off the Monday 6 August to Wednesday 8 August as well and score yourself a 9 day holiday using just 4 days leave.

Heritage Day

Our Heritage Day (also known as Braai Day) falls on Monday 24 September which gives you a lekker little long weekend.

Day of Reconciliation

The Day of Reconciliation falls on a Sunday in 2018, which means that Monday 17 December becomes the public holiday giving you another long weekend (right before the big summer holidays).

Christmas Holidays (South African Summer Holidays)

Christmas (25 December) falls on a Tuesday this year and the Day of Goodwill on a Wednesday (26 December). By taking just 8 days leave over this period, you are guaranteed another 18 day holiday!
