Imagine a book exploding with authentic stories, written by kids, and all in their very own language! That’s exactly the magic that can be found in every page of Nal’ibali’s newly launched second edition of the “Seeds of Change” anthology.

Postmasburg, South Africa (09 October 2025) – The possibilities are endless when children are empowered with access to reading materials in their home language and provided with a platform to share their stories.

And you don’t have to take our word for it because the proof is in the pudding, or rather, in the growing locally produced books!

Nal’ibali, in collaboration with a corporate sponsor, recently celebrated the launch of the second edition of the anthology, Seeds of Change, at NG Kerk, Postmasburg in the Northern Cape.

This marked the second edition of authentic stories written by children in their mother tongue, based on their own experiences!

According to Nal’ibali, the anthology features 76 poems and short stories in English, Afrikaans, and isiXhosa written by 76 learners from Grades R to 5 from 10 primary schools in Postmasburg and Danielskuil.

During the book launch, which gathered child authors, teachers, and parents, the proud learners got to share their stories with their caregivers, who also joined them on stage.

“Hearing these stories and seeing the illustrations proved that reading and writing can be tools for reflection, empowerment, and healing for children,” Nal’ibali said.

The literacy-rich event was not just about releasing a book but also about celebrating the collaboration among different communities and organisations that give young people a voice and platforms to shine.

Over and above promoting reading for enjoyment and in the mother tongue, Nal’ibali understands that supporting young writers early on can provide a strong foundation for their growth and help them thrive as they develop personally, academically, and professionally.

The national reading-for-enjoyment campaign does this by increasing access to reading materials, offering mentorship, and creating platforms for them to share their work.

With children as young as five already adding the title of author next to their names, we think it’s safe to say the Nal’ibali team is doing a stellar job!

We celebrate this amazing initiative and look forward to seeing these young, bright stars shine even brighter!
