A mother’s heartfelt tradition of saying “yes” to her daughter for one special day each month has sparked a wave of inspiration, proving that small acts of love can create moments – and memories – that last a lifetime.

Johannesburg, South Africa (31 December 2024) – A mother’s love, a child’s gratitude and a simple yet powerful tradition (of saying yes) are warming hearts across the internet.

Nomfundo Marele, a proud mother, recently shared a story on X (formerly Twitter) that has touched thousands of people. Her heartfelt post revealed a touching gesture from her 12-year-old daughter, Liso – a beautiful reminder of how the values we instil in our children can shape their character in remarkable ways.

“Every month from age 3, I’d take Little Human for a ‘Yes Day’. She could choose any three things to do. It was usually a movie, an outfit, and a toy. This year for my Christmas present, she took me to Clicks, told me to choose any three things, and paid with her own savings. She’s 12,” wrote Nomfundo.

The post has since gone viral, with people from all walks of life celebrating the love and gratitude between mother and daughter. The replies are flooded with admiration and inspiration.

“I wanna do wholesome things like this with my future kids.”

“This is so wholesome.”

“You raised a good little human.”

When we reached out to Nomfundo and Liso about their story, their responses were just as moving.

“A small gift can say a big thank you,” Liso said with wisdom beyond her years, embodying the generosity her mother has nurtured in her.

And we really love the concept of a “Yes Day”. But it is more than just a fun tradition… it’s a powerful tool for teaching children to value choices, cherish memories, and embrace gratitude. What started as a simple monthly outing to empower Liso has grown into a lesson that resonates far beyond their family.

This tweet and the story that has followed are proof that the traditions we create today can echo far into the future, inspiring not only our children but also countless others to live with kindness, gratitude, and purpose.

And we will definitely say “YES” to more of that.
