If you’re a talented guitarist and are keen to share your gift with a few children who could really do with a little light in their lives, you could be a real-life hero for the Durbanville Children’s Home! By offering guitar lessons, the home hopes to create a space where these youngsters can discover their hidden talents and find joy through music.

Cape Town, South Africa (08 January 2025) – Whether you prefer an upbeat tune or smoother sounds, music holds the incredible power to heal, inspire and bring joy to each and every one of us. It’s the universal language that evokes unexpected emotions and can effortlessly break down invisible barriers, connecting strangers from different walks of life.

The Durbanville Children’s Home is looking to share this profound magic of music with the 144 children in its care with the help of a passionate guitarist who is open to sharing the gift of music by offering guitar lessons.

They already have one instrument ready to go and are looking for a talented player who is keen to share their skills with the keen youngsters.

“Our dream is to create a space where our children can uncover their hidden talents and express themselves through music. Lessons will take place on-site at Durbanville Children’s Home, and we’re aiming to kick off this exciting program at the end of January 2025,” the home shares.

As a registered child and youth care centre in the Cape Peninsula, the home is responsible for over a hundred vulnerable children placed in its trusted care by court orders.

Many of these children, aged between two and 18 years old, have experienced unspeakable hardships before finding their way to the Durbanville Children’s Home. Music is just one of the ways they can heal, find hope, express themselves and perhaps even discover a new talent.

If you’re a talented guitarist with a desire to make a difference in the lives of these children, please consider reaching out to the Durbanville Children’s Home by contacting Johanna Strauss at jstrauss@dchome.org.za.
