Retail therapy can work wonders and it doesn’t just benefit the shopper. In Somerset West, Heartlands Baby Sanctuary has three fantastic retail therapy opportunities to support their safe house: a bookstore, an Organic Garden and the Chic Boutique!

Somerset West, South Africa (16 January 2025) — Retail therapy often gets a bad rep as being an outlet for excessive materialism. But, what can we use our retail therapy cravings for good? There are hundreds 0f charity shops scattered across South Africa. While we build our 2025 Charity Shops List (you can find our previously spotlighted charity shop gems here), we thought we’d spotlight a 3-in-1 stop for the best kind of retail therapy in Somerset West that supports Heartlands Baby Sanctuary!

Heartlands Baby Sanctuary gives unwanted babies, or babies in the process of adoption, a safe haven to call their own for a while. The temporary home is run by staff and volunteers and, to date, has helped hundreds of babies.

But, like all charities, Heartlands relies on the hearts and purse strings of its supporters. Their sustainability projects work in the same way charity shops do and are an important way to channel funds to their cause. This means that when you shop with them, you are also supporting the well-being of the little ones in their care.

Here’s what you’ll find when stopping by to shop!

Books Galore

The Bookshop hosts an impressive collection of reads for both adults and children. Currently, two books are going for just R30, and book donations are also welcome.

The Chic Boutique

The Chic Boutique recently got stocked with fabulous pre-loved clothing items (ladies, men and kids) as well as homeware pieces. There are also toys, puzzles and plushies on offer!

The Seeds of Hope Organic Food Garden

In the market for some fresh produce? The Seeds of Hope Organic Food Garden has you covered.

The sanctuary’s garden currently has beetroot, gem squash, green beans, and tomatoes on offer, thanks to its hydroponic tunnels. Those who get to the garden early can look forward to items like organic chicken and duck eggs.

What’s really super about the garden is that it also produces food for the children at Heartlands, ensuring that their nourishment is top-quality!

You can visit 794 Old Paardevlei Road, The Interchange, Somerset West. Every day from 8:30 am to 4 pm (Monday to Friday) and 8:30 am to 1 pm on Saturdays.

Keep up with Heartlands here.
