Netflix

Catching Feelings has been green-lit to appear on Netflix South Africa making it the first South African movie to appear locally on the streaming website.

Catching Feelings has been making waves in South African cinema for breaking away from the typical, political driven themes and focusing on romantic comedy. The movie has received massive praise and even earned an 8.6/10 rating on IMDb and 95% of Google users have liked the film.

Kagiso Lediga wrote, directed, produced and starred in the movie that touches on many aspects of life in South Africa. The comedy will make you laugh out loud but also speaks to an underlying theme of friendship, relationship struggles and even race relations.

The focus of the movie is on Lediga, a writer and English professor who invites a famous, self-indulgent writer into his life. The relationship that grows between them takes a toll on Lediga’s characters life and marriage thus turning his usual world upside-down.

The movie is set in Johannesburg and features big names like Pearl Thusi (of Quantico fame), Loyisa Gola and Andrew Buckland to name a few.

We previously reported that Inxeba (The Wound) would be appearing on Netflix but it is currently only available to stream in the US, so Catching Feelings will be the first South African film to stream on Netflix South Africa. The South African pointed out that the only other piece of South African content on Netflix so far, is a comedy special with Trevor Noah.

There is no confirmation about when the release will take place.

Watch the trailer below. Have you already seen the movie? Or will you be adding it to your watchlist as soon as it hits Netflix?
