More than just a medical facility, the Chris Hani Baragwanath Clubfoot Clinic is a place where distressed families find joy and where tiny feet are given a chance to run and play freely!
Johannesburg, South Africa (06 February 2025) – Every year, more than 2,000 babies are born in South Africa with clubfoot, which is often an initial scare for many new parents who are understandably concerned about their child’s wellbeing.
Thankfully, there are healthcare providers such as those at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Clubfoot Clinic who work tirelessly not only to treat this birth defect but also to provide a wave of relief to countless families who enter their doors seeking answers and assistance.
Located at one of the largest hospitals in the world, Chris Hani Baragwanath Clubfoot Clinic is a place of hope for families seeking life-changing clubfoot treatment.
According to STEPS, the facility treats up to 80 patients every Wednesday and has become South Africa’s busiest clubfoot clinic, drawing families from across Gauteng and neighbouring provinces.
Under the leadership of Dr Yammesh Ramguthy and Dr Gwyneth Wilmot, no child in need of care is ever turned away. This compassionate and skilled team ensures every family is met with support, expertise, and the promise of brighter futures.
“Seeing parents arrive in distress and then watching their joy as their children run around with perfectly corrected feet is my favourite part of working here,” shares Francinah Sehlapelo, Sister in charge of Paediatric Orthopaedics.
Ursula Kibido, STEPS Clinic Coordinator, adds that being able to empower parents and caregivers as they navigate this journey is a privilege.
“It starts with hope and ends with functional, corrected feet.”
Chris Hani Baragwanath Clubfoot Clinic is more than just a medical centre—it’s a place of transformation and resilience, changing hundreds of lives every year, one tiny footstep at a time.
