A restaurant in Constantia at the Silvermist Estate has been named one of the world’s best at this year’s TripAdvisor Traveller Choice awards.

La Colombe has added yet another accolade to their name, the restaurant has been voted into the world’s best for the second year running. Last year, La Colombe came in 7th of the list of 10.

Crowd-sourced review site TripAdvisor has named La Colombe in Constantia, Cape Town, the seventh best restaurant in the world in its annual Traveler’s Choice Awards in the fine dining category.

The Travelers’ Choice awards, which are handed down annually to top-performing restaurants, hotels, attractions, and more, are compiled based on reviews and ratings collected from millions of TripAdvisor users over a yearlong period.

This year the now iconic establishment has moved from 7th place to 6th on the list and once again was the only African restaurant to feature on the international list of 25.

Originally founded on the historic Constantia Uitsig wine estate, it relocated under new ownership to the picturesque Silvermist organic wine estate at the top of Constantia Nek, with breathtaking views overlooking the Constantia wine valley, False Bay and Hout Bay.

A list of the top 10 South African restaurants was also selected and they are as follows:

  1. La Colombe – Constantia Nek
  2. Rust en Vrede – Stellenbosch
  3. The Pot Luck Club – Central Cape Town
  4. Delaire Graff – Stellenbosch
  5. Le Bon Vivant – Franschhoek
  6. La Mouette – Central Cape Town
  7. Buitenverwachting – Constantia
  8. Tokara – Stellenbosch
  9. Foliage – Franschhoek
  10. Pigalle – Central Cape Town

All the restaurants are from the Western Cape which is a little disappointing as we would have loved to see a diversity from all of our provinces but it makes sense as these places are chosen by users of TripAdvisor and Cape Town is the most popular tourist destination in the country.

Hopefully next year we can see more places from the rest of South Africa. Let’s go out there and make it happen!
