The Fairlands Air Scouts spent time filling several Jars of Hope for charity and donated them to the Charity Begins With Me team, working to feed people in need.
Johannesburg, South Africa (08 August 2023) – Charity Begins With Me have received another amazing donation of ‘Jars of Hope’, this time from the Fairlands Air Scouts. The young men that attend the scouts, filled many jars with ingredients that will be a wholesome meal for a person in need.
The need in South Africa is so great that people are trying to do more, but with fewer resources. One way this is being accomplished is by making Jars of Hope or a Meal-in-a-Bag. These bags or jars have the power to feed four people and everything they will need, besides water and a pot, is included in the package.
The Jar of Hope or Mean-in-a-Bag concept was started in 2020 when people wanted to help as many as possible. This concept was to help people through the toughest times of the lockdown. Now it’s still being used because times are still tough for many.
A person can purchase all the needed items for just under R120 and feed multiple families in one go. The meal bag is made up of six simple non-perishable pantry ingredients that make up a meal when water is added. You can add a mixture of rice, pasta, soup mix or split peas, lentils, stock cubes and soup packets. You just need to measure out half a cup of each ingredient and place in a stock cube and soup packet.
Charity Begins With Me received a huge amount of jars from the scouts, who just wanted to make sure families supported by the charity have a few warm meals.
Stephen Ferreira started ‘Charity Begins With Me‘ shortly after he was first diagnosed with cancer in 2016. He realised he could do so much more with the life he had left and quickly set up the charity as a way to give back. He ran the charity throughout his chemotherapy treatments, remission and, sadly, his relapse. Whatever battles he faces in his own life, it is those of others that give him the strength to push through.
Working with the local community has become a huge part of Stephen’s life and making sure everyone has equal opportunity, even more so. Times are tough and he is seeing it first-hand, on the ground.

This concept can be shared with any charity that works with people in need. So if you would like to take up the cause, you can simply reach out to your nearest charity and donate them. Just be sure to label what has been placed inside the bag so should there be any dietary restrictions, people can be aware.
