Gift of the Givers is helping give a Jozi Hospital a second chance to change lives with an all-important upgrade after a fire impacted Charlotte Maxeke Hospital months before.
Johannesburg, South Africa (19 May, 2023) — Gift of the Givers recently shared the exciting news of a Jozi hospital and its recovery after a fire impacted the health facility in 2021.
Back then, Gift of the Givers was hot on the scene to help, not realising at the time just how much good work would need to be done to get Charlotte Maxeke Hospital back on its feet.
The fire had broken out in the dispensary storage section of the hospital in April that year, an all-important area where medical supplies were kept. Since Gift of the Givers had lent a helping hand from the moment they heard about that fateful fire—they helped secure ambulances to move patients to other hospitals—the Givers were prepared to continue lending a hand for the months to come.
A new storage facility was imperative, so the Givers went to the drawing board to develop some ideas.
They found a disused dining room for nurses; the perfect place to start, and soon their engineers and architects set to task when the plans were approved.
“Construction teams went to work adhering to strict protocols especially regulations related to fire safety which turned out to be a very expensive aspect of the building development, and sixty million rand later a 3000 square metre masterpiece, making it the largest medical stores facility in South Africa”, shares Gift of The Givers.
The handover happened just yesterday in a great affair as Dr Imitiaz Sooliman handed over the special gift to Charlotte Maxeke.
Meanwhile, in another bout of awesome news for Johannesburg hospitals, the first open heart surgery for Bheki Mlangeni District Hospital happened recently, saving a young hero’s life.
