The Hollard Daredevil Run 2025 is calling on every South African man to lace up, strip down, and start talking about what really matters… their health.
South Africa (14 October 2025) – There’s something beautifully South African about the sight of men, and plenty of women cheering them on, running through the streets in nothing but purple Speedos. It’s cheeky, it’s brave, and it’s for a purpose that truly matters.
The Hollard Daredevil Run is back for 2025 and this year marks sixteen years since the very first group of runners stripped down for a cause that’s saving lives.
Since its inception in 2009, this proudly South African event has grown from a handful of runners daring to bare to a nationwide movement that’s changed the conversation around men’s health. At Good Things Guy, we’ve supported it since day one… writing about it, cheering for it, and yes, even donning those iconic purple speedos to join the run ourselves. Because at its heart, the Hollard Daredevil Run is about more than just running. It’s about courage, conversation and community.
The Daredevil Run challenges men to face one of the biggest taboos in health, talking about their bodies. In partnership with CANSA (the Cancer Association of South Africa) and the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF), every step taken helps fund essential screening and awareness programmes for prostate and testicular cancers.
“Join thousands of brave participants on Friday, 31 October, for the 2025 Hollard Daredevil Run and make a bold statement in the fight against prostate and testicular cancer,” the organisers shared. “Last year marked a surge in attendance, from schools, previous runners, corporates, partners and, more importantly, many new runners. Our goal this year is to raise the bar even more! We dare you to join us and make your ballsiest move yet!”
And it’s not just talk. The funds raised every year have helped provide PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) tests for thousands of men across South Africa, many of whom would never have had access otherwise. A simple blood test that takes seconds can be the difference between early detection and a late diagnosis.
From Zoo Lake to the Kruger, the Purple Wave Spreads
What started at Zoo Lake in Johannesburg has now spread to towns, suburbs and communities across the country. Whether it’s groups of colleagues jogging together, dads and sons making it a yearly tradition, or game rangers dashing through the bush in the name of awareness, the Daredevil Run has become a fixture of South African life.
This year, the run takes place on Friday, 31 October 2025, and participants can join organised events around South Africa or run solo in their own neighbourhoods because the message matters everywhere.
You can sign up, grab your purple Speedo and join the movement that’s changing the face of men’s health one brave stride at a time.
Why It Matters
Prostate cancer affects one in six men during their lifetime, while testicular cancer remains the most common among younger men aged 15 to 35. Yet, these conversations are often whispered, delayed, or avoided altogether. The Daredevil Run flips that silence into something powerful… laughter, visibility and solidarity.
The Daredevil Run is fun, yes, but it’s also one of the most impactful awareness campaigns South Africa has ever seen. It’s proof that when we come together, even half-dressed and laughing, we can drive real change.
So, whether you’re signing up to run through Zoo Lake, jogging along your local park, or cheering from the sidelines, remember… every stride counts, every laugh helps, and every conversation could save a life.
