A group of Johannesburg cops set up a blood drive in July and are encouraging their fellow officers to continue donating blood to save lives.
Johannesburg Central Police Station Captain Xoli Mbele, pictured above, was part of a group of officers that donated blood at a recent blood drive set up by the Johannesburg Central Cluster and the Ithlokomeleng Batho Rehabilitation Centre. They worked with the local community to host a blood drive on 21 July.
The initiative was spearheaded by Station Commander of Johannesburg Central Police Station Major General Dr Ronnie Rajin.
The event took place at Southgate Mall and not only did police officers donate, community members joined in the drive.
“It is the duty of the police to protect people and their property to ensure that they remain safe and secure in their communities, but donating blood is another way of showing that the police care so much about the community.” – Major General Dr Ronnie Rajin
He encouraged the police to keep on donating blood to save the nation. The spokesperson for the Johannesburg Central Police Station Captain Xoli Mbele agreed with this statement and said the entire drive was a big success.
“Policemen and women came out in numbers to donate blood, even members of the community also graced the occasion. Safety-tip pamphlets were also distributed.”
These officers have made a massive impact and will save many lives thanks to their donations.
