The entire Kearsney College came together to sing “Bokke, My Dali!” an iGwijo song inspired by the Springboks and bring home the victory.
KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa (26 October 2023) – The young men from Kearsney College have added their voices to the rising sound of South Africans singing, inspiring and rejoicing for the Springboks. They performed an iGwijo called “Booke, My Dal!”. The young men have sent ripples of inspiration throughout the country.
Not sure what iGwijo or AmaGwigo is? Public speaker Kim van Kets shared her experience with the performance style along with a deeper look into its history and cultural significance. You can read that here.
The young men from Kearsney are no strangers performing, their choir has been featured several times on Good Things Guy, but what makes this performance of iGwijo so special, is that the entire school got to take part.
The song was written by Nduduzo Mkhize, Class of 2015 and Director of Music Bernard Krüger.
The young men filled the chapel with words of encouragement for the Springboks. As they sing along, back and forth, the energy of the young men grows and by the end of the song student speaker Sethu Magubane shares a powerful message of support for the team.
“In light of the Springboks’ upcoming match in the Rugby World Cup Final 2023, Kearsney College wanted to show our support to the team with a new song. The entire school took part in this recording.”
The school also welcomes others to join them. They have offered to share the lyrics and sheet music to anyone who would like to join in. They encourage people to email their requests to music@kearsney.com.
