Funda Nenja creatively weaves together the lives of children, dogs, and the wider community in various ways. Recently, they hosted a fun and educational workshop with the hope of setting kids on a path of service to their community, both human and animal.
Mpophomeni, South Africa (10 April 2025) – Making a positive difference in the lives of children, dogs and the Mpophomeni community is the very reason why Funda Nenja exists, and one of the ways it achieved this was through a recently held kids workshop.
The workshop, facilitated by Funda Nenja’s social worker, touched on children’s human rights as well as fun activities that tested their concentration and listening skills.
The impressive turnout of 53 children underscored the deep need and appreciation for such enriching and educational opportunities in Mpophomeni to make a difference in young people’s lives.
The story of Hlamulo Makhubela beautifully illustrates the long-term impact of Funda Nenja’s dedication.
He joined the dog school nine years ago with his first dog, named Ginger, as a child and then went on to become a class instructor.
“In the past couple of years, Hlamulo has also assisted at our monthly sterilisation clinics.
“Last year Hlamulo left home to start studying at university in Durban, but he continues to assist Funda Nenja during holiday breaks,” Funda Nenja shares.
This week he even assisted at a sterilisation clinic under the supervision of Di Santoro, showcasing the organisation’s ability to foster responsibility, leadership, and a spirit of giving back.
The kids workshop was concluded with a nutritious meal supplied by the mother’s group and will hopefully be the beginning of many other youngsters’ journeys in serving the community and its four-legged members.
