The Collen Mashawana Foundation stepped in with a generous hand to support Tshishonga Primary School, constructing a modern computer classroom and donating computers for the teachers.

Thohoyandou, South Africa (10 February 2025) – With just 12 but very dedicated teachers educating and supporting 438 learners, the Tshishonga Primary School in Thohoyandou, Limpopo, serves as a crucial educational hub for the community.

Touched by the commendable work achieved at the school despite its limited resources and workforce, philanthropist Collen Mashawana was reminded of his early years as a young boy who gained foundational skills like reading and writing in a similar environment.

In a bid to help improve the school’s learning environment, the Collen Mashawana Foundation (CMF) recently constructed a modern computer classroom and donated computers for teacher use.

But their support doesn’t stop there. The foundation formalised a three-year partnership with Tshishonga Primary, committing to renovations and support.

“We plan to build an administration block to enhance the teachers’ work environment and improve school functionality, as well as provide a new ablution block,” CMF said.

Beyond infrastructure, the CMF also deployed over 30 staff members to maintain the school daily and distributed over 200 pairs of school shoes to students, recognising the financial struggles faced by many families in the community, especially as over 90% of learners rely on government grants.

“With the ongoing support of the Collen Mashawana Foundation and the dedication of the school’s staff, Tshishonga Primary is poised to enhance its educational impact on both students and educators,” CMF added.

These incredible efforts and contributions will go a long way in ensuring the school remains a conducive learning environment that nurtures young minds to aspire to greatness!
