Just over three years ago, she couldn’t speak a single word. But now, adored South African songstress, Lira, has found her voice and made her official musical comeback by returning to a place she had secretly dreamed of performing at again.

Johannesburg, South Africa (25 September 2025) – She once sang the inspiring words: “I won’t waste time on feeling blue, I won’t waste time on things I cannot change”.

Lira, a South African songstress celebrated by many and a living inspiration to those who have taken the time to hear her story, has lived up to those very words with immeasurable resilience.

Good Things Guy previously shared that in April 2022, Lira suffered a stroke while travelling alone in Germany, leaving her unable to speak, read, or write.

Since then, she has faced a challenging journey with aphasia, regaining her voice along a different path she never expected but now considers a blessing – one that came with a silence she didn’t realise she needed.

After years of speech therapy and intentional healing, she has made her musical comeback and recently returned to a stage her heart secretly longed to perform on again: The DSTV Delicious Festival at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit.

“Last year, while introducing the phenomenal Jill Scott to the stage, I said I’d love to return to @dstvdeliciousfestival… and yesterday [21 September] that dream came true,” she wrote in a recent post.

Reflecting on the emotional experience, Lira said it was unbelievable, and the love from the crowd overwhelming.

“I got emotional just thinking about how far I’ve come. Just over three years ago, I couldn’t speak a single word… and now I’m singing in front of thousands of loving fans.”

The world-renowned musician further expressed her gratitude to all who have supported her and affirmed that she is truly back to doing what she loves most with no restraints!

“From the bottom of my heart — thank you… I’m back for real,” Lira said.

We couldn’t be happier or more excited to see our Afro-soul queen, whose story carries profound grace and strength, back on stage and beautifully so! Welcome back, Lira!
