How do you unite people from all over a city in a small stretch of suburb? You throw a one-of-a-kind carnival! Take a look at the magic of this year’s Cape Town Carnival in snaps:

Greenpoint, South Africa (19 March 2024) — On Saturday 16 March, cars began to fight for spots in Green Point as soon as afternoon struck while the final touches were underway for the Cape Town Carnival that evening.

By the time the sun began to set, Green Point had turned into a festival of activity, where people from all walks of Cape Town gathered to witness the dancers, performers and floats touched with the utmost creativity.

For every spectator present, there was at least one moment where we felt part of something much bigger than ourselves. Thousands of smiles, different bouts of laughter and a united sense of joy became its own kind of show—one that echoed gees and pride.

It was above and beyond fantastic to see LEAP officers and firefighters take centre stage to kickstart the show with marching and pushups—an ode to the unsung heroes of the Mother City.

The strong start was followed by a series of floats that made spectators young and old gaze in awe—from an epic sweet treats on the move display that became YoungstaCPT’s stage, to giant insects, sea creatures and dragons.

Under the proudly South African theme ‘Lekker’, it was magic to witness imaginings of what the word feels like come to life in all flavours of creative flair.

‘The Cape Town Carnival is truly significant for everyone involved. The spectators are here to simply enjoy a lekker evening and just have a good time. We have 1550 performers and each of them comes from a different cultural background. They will all go home with a story, a family that is proud of them and them being proud of themselves for participating in a really world-class event,” glowed Anton Liebenberg, a Cape Town Carnival trustee.

But, don’t just take our words for it. Have a look at the ultimate lekker affair:
