Love Howick's Street Store Is Bringing Hope to Families In Need

Love Howick is a community-driven organisation making a real difference in the lives of those in need. Their innovative Street Store operates on a unique “swop shop” system, where people can exchange their recycling waste for tokens to purchase essentials like food or toiletries.

Howick, South Africa (28 January 2025) – From community clean-ups to employment opportunities – and just about everything in between – Love Howick is dedicated to bringing hope to every street, corner and home of the charming town.

Love Howick’s Street Store is one of the many ways that it supports those in need in the community. Operating on a “swop shop” system, the shop enables those in need of basic supplies to exchange their recycling waste for tokens to shop in the store.

The store stocks quality second-hand clothing, toiletries, formal clothing appropriate for interviews, food supplies, homeware, toys and so more – all generously donated by community members looking out for their fellow friends who could really do with some of their unwanted items.

“As an organisation, Love Howick is committed to dealing with poverty in our area and addressing some of the social ills plaguing the poor in our city,” shares Love Howick’s Store Assistant Andiswa Mbense and Store Co-ordinator Debra Hutton.

The shop is currently running low on non-perishable food items and toiletries.

The organisation appeals to the greater community to consider adding a few items to their trolleys this week and dropping them off in their Baskets Of Hope, which can be found at Spar or at the charity store situated on 19 Morling Street, Howick.
