In Gqeberha, the Masinyusane Development Organisation is rolling out a powerful movement that is igniting a love for reading and learning in young Xhosa children, particularly those in disadvantaged communities.
Gqeberha, South Africa (26 February 2025) – Calling all Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres in Gqeberha to be a part of creating young literacy and language champions!
With the hope and desire to provide children, especially those in disadvantaged communities, with the superpower of reading while instilling a spirit of curiosity and learning, the Masinyusane Development Organisation is inviting ECDs to be part of its database as it looks to expand the reach of its Masi and Zazi Literacy Programmes.
“These programmes focus on early childhood literacy and are taught in isiXhosa Home Language, helping children with key learning components such as letter formation, sound recognition, and overall language development – laying a strong foundation for future learning,” Masinyusane shared.
A lot of work and careful attention goes into helping a child grasp a language as well as learn to read and write. It is such programmes focused on these areas that directly tackle literacy and learning challenges at their core, ensuring that children gain a thorough understanding of the various materials and concepts presented to them in the classroom.
“The goal is to recruit and maintain a list of ECDCs that are committed to quality early childhood education and literacy development,” Masinyusane shares.
By registering on the organisation’s database, ECDs will also be considered when funding opportunities become available.
