Cape Town is gearing up for a wave of Straw Hat pirates, as Netflix has officially confirmed that One Piece is back in South Africa for Season 3.
Cape Town, South Africa (27 November 2025) – Production has kicked off in Cape Town with One Piece’s full Straw Hat crew returning! The announcement comes just months before the second season of the popular series hits screens on 10 March 2026.
The first season of the live-action series took off around the world when it debuted in 2023, spending eight weeks on the Global Top 10, reaching #1 in over 75 countries and making history as the first Netflix English-language series to debut at #1 in Japan, where the original One Piece manga was born.
In the two years since the first season’s release, the show has racked up almost 100 million views and is one of Netflix’s most downloaded shows of all time.
Cape Town and surrounding locations have formed a large part of One Piece’s world.
These sets, along with the city’s long-standing reputation as an international filming hub, have helped attract productions like Black Sails, The Kissing Booth, Mission Impossible 8, Resident Evil, Black Mirror, Raised by Wolves and many more.
Production for the third season has kicked off in the Mother City with the full Straw Hat crew on board.
The cast includes Iñaki Godoy (Luffy), Mackenyu (Zoro), Emily Rudd (Nami), Jacob Romero (Usopp) and Taz Skylar (Sanji). Joining them are Charithra Chandran (Miss Wednesday), Mikaela Hoover (Chopper), Joe Manganiello (Mr. 0), Lera Abova (Miss All Sunday), and Sendhil Ramamurthy (Nefertari Cobra) as well as new cast additions Cole Escola (Bon Clay) and Xolo Maridueña (Portgas D. Ace).
Based on Japan’s highest-selling manga of all time, with more than 500 million copies sold, One Piece follows Monkey D. Luffy on his quest to find the legendary treasure and become King of the Pirates.
