The organisation is collecting Christmas boxes for the homeless, the elderly, and for children who would otherwise not receive prezzies at all.
Johannesburg, South Africa (09 December 2025) – This year, Johannesburg-based nonprofit organisation One Small Act of Kindness is gearing up to make Christmas special for over 1000 people who could do with the extra bit of festive joy.
The organisation hopes to raise 500 Elf Boxes for the kiddies, 200 Community Care boxes for the homeless, and 500 Golden Oldie boxes for the elderly.
For some, Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year. For others, it’s the loneliest and most difficult. Each box pledged to One Small Act of Kindness contains items that bring dignity, love and warmth to underprivileged people, young and old, who often go without spoils or gifts.
In order to meet their goal of 500 Elf Boxes for the kiddies this year, the organisation still needs 100 more boxes. Each box will go towards making sure that young children like Lebo and Daniel get to unwrap something special on Christmas morning.
“[Lebo’s] the little girl who shares everything, even when she has very little. Her mom works long hours to keep things afloat and December often brings more stress than celebration. Lebo dreams of having something just for her a soft toy, a colouring set, a treat she doesn’t have to give away.”
“[Daniel’s] the oldest sibling, already playing the ‘protector’ role far too young. He smiles bravely, but he knows Christmas doesn’t usually come with presents. He watches other children unwrap gifts and pretends he doesn’t mind but his eyes tell the truth.” shares the organisation.
Each Elf Box contains a packet of sweets, a colouring book, pencils or crayons, a toy, socks and bubbles. They’re small items that bring a moment of pure joy to children from different parts of the country, with different stories, facing different struggles. They carry the same quiet Christmas wish to feel seen, valued, and remembered.
