Close to 300 care packages have now been shared with new moms and their littles!
Durban, South Africa (24 February 2026) – Close to 300 care packages have now been shared with new moms and their little ones across four public hospitals in Durban, building on the Robin Hood Foundation’s month of love!
Earlier this month, 70 new moms were wrapped in warmth and care at Victoria Mxenge Hospital. Since then, the Robin Hood team has reached many more through its Love the Babies initiative.
Over the past three weeks, volunteers have extended the campaign to RK Khan Hospital, Wentworth Hospital and St Mary’s Hospital, bringing the total number of moms supported to close to 300.

For many moms giving birth in South Africa’s public hospitals, those first hours of motherhood are tender and overwhelming all at once. Sometimes there hasn’t been the opportunity to prepare fully for baby’s arrival. The Love the Babies bags address some of those immediate needs.
Each bundle includes pre-loved baby clothing, soft teddies and hand-knitted essentials donated by community members locally and even from abroad. The items are sorted, packed and handed directly from volunteers to moms in the maternity wards.
“These bags are more than just essentials. They are dignity. They are hope. They are a reminder that someone cares. Many of these moms have no clothing to dress their newborn babies. The delight, the relief, the overwhelming gratitude in those hospital rooms is something words can never fully capture. Our volunteers often leave with tears in their eyes — deeply moved by the joy these small acts of love bring,” shared the Robin Hood Foundation.

“Walking through the ward and hearing the moms chatter, laugh and squeal with delight as they opened their packs was pure magic. Many immediately dressed their babies in the outfits – proud, joyful moments we will never forget,” the foundation added.
The Durban-based NPO runs several community upliftment initiatives, with Love the Babies being one of its most consistent and meaningful campaigns. It runs entirely through donations of pre-loved baby clothes, blankets, wraps and gently used baby essentials.
If you would like to support the initiative, you can donate items that will be sorted and packed into future Love the Babies bags. For more information or drop-off details, contact the Robin Hood Foundation directly.
