A golden retriever puppy named Todd has become a hero after saving his mom Paula Godwin from a rattlesnake bite while on their walk in Arizona.

Todd the hero Golden Retriever puppy has become a viral sensation after saving his human mom from a rattlesnake bite. The family of three, Todd, Paula and her other dog, were out for a walk when the incident occurred.

The rattlesnake was camouflaged on the path when it became startled by Paula’s presence. The snake coiled up ready to lunge at Paula’s legs when Todd jumped between them and got bitten on his snout.

In total shock, Paula scooped Todd up and ran for her car. She quickly drove to the nearest animal hospital where he received an anti-venom.

“So this morning was up bright and early to go on a hike on 7th street carefree. It was a beautiful morning but as we were walking down the hill I literally almost stepped on a mf rattlesnake. But my hero of a puppy Todd saved me He jumped right in front of my leg were I surely would have got bit. This is what a hero looks like, please say a little prayer for my sweet hero.” (sic)

Rattlesnake bites are rarely fatal to adult humans but can be extremely painful and cause blurred vision, numbness, pain and difficulty breathing. The symptoms are the same in dogs but the bite is more likely to be fatal. Thankfully Paula was able to get her beloved puppy treatment quickly.

After a few days, his swelling went down and now all he has to show for his heroics is a small wound on his muzzle. Someone started a crowdfund in honour of Todd to raise funds for anti-venom treatment for other dogs in the area. The initial goal was to raise $500 but it has surpassed that and is currently sitting at over $2000.
