In an effort to address poor financial management due to behavioural traps like impulse spending and peer pressure, Primestars SA inspired high schoolers to change their mindset when it comes to handling their money.
South Africa (28 February 2025) – Oftentimes, whether we care to admit it or not, how we choose to spend or prioritise our money significantly contributes to whether we feel stressed or at ease a couple of days after payday.
To save or to spend? That is the question we need to ask ourselves more and more before swiping or checking out online – especially for things we may not necessarily need or haven’t carefully budgeted for.
According to Primestars SA, many people’s money troubles are caused by behavioural traps like the lack of self-control, impulse spending and peer pressure that keep them locked in a cycle of spending too much and saving too little.
Looking to break this cycle, the educational organisation built on the ethos of doing good, screened its Rethink Rands video financial literacy programme in various cinemas on Saturday, the 22nd of February.
This programme aims to equip the youth with a financial mindset that fosters success and wealth – an especially crucial financial education approach for youngsters who may have not been guided on the ways to use or make the most of their money.
When you know better, you do better, and Rethink Rands hopes to empower young people to develop strong saving habits and make informed financial decisions for the long term.
“This movement will reach thousands of young people by meeting them wherever they are on their financial journey, ensuring they have access to and understanding of the knowledge, tools and resources they need to make informed financial decisions,” said Primestars in its commitments to driving financial education and changing the narrative of “struggling to get by” for many young people.
